The new HD version helps in this regard - what was a muddy mess in the GameCube/Wii versions looks crisp and clean on the Wii U (though many of the environments are still notably blocky). The thing is, once you push past the shaky beginning, Twilight Princess is excellent, mixing the best dungeons in the entire series with a moody, but not overly grim motif that blends traditional Zelda environments with elements seemingly inspired by Princess Mononoke and Silent Hill. (The game’s opening village sequence seems to be there to teach you every single mechanic in the game in the most tedious way possible, and even includes training for a mechanic you literally don’t see again until the final boss battle 40 hours later.) The truth is that TP has perhaps the best 30 hours of any 3D Zelda game, the problem is that those 30 hours come after 10 real stinkers, and a 1.5 hour introductory sequence that’s downright painful to play through.
